Drainage is one of the most overlooked aspects of court construction, yet it has more impact on long-term durability than almost any other single factor. Standing water after rain doesn't just delay play, it gradually weakens the sub-base and surface coating from beneath.

This is a step our team treats as non-negotiable on every basketball court construction in Chennai project. A properly engineered court starts with a compacted, well-graded sub-base that allows water to drain away from the playing surface rather than pooling at low points. A slight slope, typically around 1%, is built into the base during construction so rainwater flows naturally toward drainage channels along the court's perimeter rather than collecting in the middle of the playing area.

For open-air courts without a roof structure, this sub-base and drainage work becomes even more critical, since the surface is directly exposed to Chennai's seasonal monsoon rainfall. Courts built without adequate drainage planning often develop cracking, surface lifting, or moss growth within a few years, all of which shorten the usable life of the court significantly and lead to expensive resurfacing far earlier than necessary.
